Argentina has won the World Cup after the most exciting final in the 92-year history of the competition, driven by Lionel Messi.
Messi and Angel Di Maria gave Argentina the advantage, but Kylian Mbappe scored a late goal to tie the game. In extra time, Messi gave Argentina the advantage again, but Mbappe responded once more for France, completing his hat-trick and forcing a penalty shootout.
Argentina prevailed in the shootout 4-2, winning the World Cup and one of the greatest games in sports history.

The teams ended extra time tied, 3-3.

Following a penalty kick goal by Lionel Messi in the 23rd minute and a goal by Argentina’s Angel Di Maria in the 36th minute, Kylian Mbappé of France answered with back-to-back goals in the 80th and 81st minute.
In extra time, Messi put Argentina back up, 3-2, with a goal in the 109th minute. Mbappé scored on a penalty kick in the 118th minute to tie the match again.
